Prof. Olusegun Jide AJIBOYE
Olusegun Jide Ajiboye, was born in Lagos in 1968 by artist-parents; Josy Ajiboye (painter and cartoonist) and Christiana Adunni Ajiboye (tie-dye and batik designer). After his elementary training at Methodist Primary School, Mushin and secondary school education at Eko Boys’ High School, also in Mushin, he obtained a National Diploma in General Arts (1989) from the Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, from where he proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State, where he obtained a B. A. in Painting (1993). He got a Master of Fine Arts degree (M. F. A.) in Painting (2000) from the same school where he has been lecturing since 1999. He has a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in African Art Studies (2011) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) in African Art Studies (2016).
Olusegun Ajiboye has been involved in several research works which yielded published articles in local and international journals. His research focus is on contemporary Nigerian arts and his creative practice has been in the areas of painting, batik, illustration and pottery. Olusegun Ajiboye believes in good and qualitative studio practice and has quite a number of joint and group exhibitions with commissions in painting and illustration to his credit. He holds the view that art is an expression of the mind that should not be hindered by rules, caged by stylistic boundaries or restricted by specialization, but must be based on genuine inspiration that reflects philosophy and expressed with the language of aesthetics. Olusegun Ajiboye is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Lagos State Chapter. He is married with children.
